What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced, meditative style of yoga that focuses on stretching and targeting the deep connective tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia, along with the joints. Unlike more dynamic styles of yoga, Yin Yoga poses are held for longer periods, typically ranging from 3 to 5 minutes or more, allowing the practitioner to relax deeply into each posture.

The practice of Yin Yoga is rooted in the principles of Taoist philosophy, particularly the concept of Yin and Yang. Yin qualities are passive, receptive, and introspective, while Yang qualities are active, dynamic, and outward-focused. In Yin Yoga, the emphasis is on embracing the Yin aspects, cultivating stillness, patience, and surrender.

Yin Yoga poses are often seated or reclined, and props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks may be used to support the body and enhance relaxation. The practice encourages practitioners to explore sensations and observe the fluctuations of the mind without judgment, fostering a deep sense of self-awareness and mindfulness.

 

Monthly Yin Yoga Workshops

Join us once a month on Friday nights through the Autumn and Winter months for the ultimate unwind after a hectic workweek. Release accumulated tension from both body and mind as we reconnect with our breath and coax our nervous system into a state of deep relaxation, preparing us for the weekend ahead.

Each session features a carefully curated sequence of yin yoga postures, held for extended durations with the support of yoga props to target areas such as the joints, lower back, and shoulders, stimulating the fascia for enhanced flexibility and mobility. Through meditation and simple pranayama techniques, we quiet the overstimulated mind, culminating in a soothing Yoga Nidra or a guided Savasana to conclude the practice.

These yin yoga workshops offer a much-needed reprieve from the hustle and bustle of modern life, providing a slow-paced yet challenging environment to open up the body and activate the restorative parasympathetic nervous system. Set in a warm, inviting space illuminated by candlelight and infused with calming essential oils, participants consistently report improved sleep and a profound sense of tranquility post-session.

Treat yourself to the self-care you deserve and indulge in the gift of time and space where you can simply be. Come as you are and allow me to guide you back home to yourself. All yoga props are provided, including two blankets and an eye pillow, though you're welcome to bring additional comforts if desired.

To secure your space, full payment via bank transfer is required. Bank details will be provided upon booking.

Please note that payments are non-refundable, except in cases where the space can be filled by another participant. In such instances, a £5 cancellation fee will be applied.
