What is Thai Yoga Massage
It is a type of holistic therapy, which has roots in the Indian system of Yoga and Ayurveda. Thai Yoga Massage works on the ten Sen, or ten energy channels. The life force energy (prana, qi, ki) flows through these channels. Due to many factors, such as stress, bad posture, trauma, life style, negative believes etc, the channels can get blocked, therefore restricting the flow of energy and potentially resulting in physical or emotional dis-ease. Thai Yoga massage aims to open up the channels, balancing and restoring the flow, so that the body can heal itself, restoring natural equilibrium.
Thai Yoga Massage is done on the floor, lying on a futon, in light, comfortable clothing which allows free movement. Your regular yoga outfit will be fine. The treatment includes techniques of palming, thumbing, acupressure points and assisted stretching. The stretches resemble Yoga asana. You, as the receiver, don’t have to do anything, but to relax and let the therapist do the stretches for you.The therapist uses her hands, thumbs, elbows and feet. The gentle rocking rhythm of the massage instills a deep, meditative quality. It is given from a place of loving kindness, called metta.
Thai Yoga massage is deeply relaxing, healing and balancing and works on all levels from physical, emotional, psychological to spiritual.
Typically each massage is a whole body treatment and is bespoke to the clients needs. It can focus for example on lower back pain, knee pain, tension in the neck and shoulders and headaches. It takes 1,5 to 2 hours, or longer if needed.
The benefits are numerous and varied. Some of the comments from clients include:

- profoundly relaxed
- having less pain
- improved flexibility and freedom of movement in the body
- having more space in the body and mind
- less stiffness in and around the spine and joints

Before and after treatment
Just like coming to a yoga class, it’s best to come with an empty stomach, dressed comfortably. Prior to your treatment you will be asked questions about your health and wellbeing.
During the treatment you will lay on a futon on the floor in supine, prone and side lying positions and sometimes seated.
The treatment is done in a warm yoga studio, with underfloor heating. Blankets are available if you get cold. There might be gentle music playing and aromatherapy oils diffused in a burner. If you don’t like either, please specify it when booking your treatment.
Afterwards, you may want to drink plenty of water, observe how you feel and treat yourself gently and with care or even go to bed.
